Potrai comunque ripristinare le normali funzionalità della tua casella di posta entrando semplicemente nella Webmail di Communicator ma, in questo caso, i messaggi eliminati non potranno essere recuperati.

Ceiling fall hurts theatre-goers

Up to 15 people were hurt when a chandelier came loose and part of the ceiling fell down at a theatre in London's West End.

Audience members ran for safety as plaster started to fall during When Harry Met Sally at the Theatre Royal Haymarket at 2205 BST on Saturday.

The show's star, Luke Perry, leapt off the stage to help people to safety, an eyewitness told BBC Radio Five Live.

Ambulances were called but there were thought to be no serious injuries.

The chandelier dropped about four feet from the ceiling but was stopped from plunging into the audience by its safety rope.

The motion dislodged parts of the ceiling, which fell into the auditorium, police said.


It was a great performance and it's a shame it had to end this way

Eyewitness Carl Hamilton said the show was in its final stages when he felt bits of plaster falling from the ceiling before "pandemonium" broke out.

He said: "Maybe one or two square metres of plaster had fallen from the ceiling and I could see lots of wood... It was a very large chandelier and everyone was looking concerned that it might fall.

"I turned around and I saw Luke standing about three or four rows from the front.

"He was obviously quite concerned to get members of the audience out, as was the rest of the cast.

"I think he was very gallant and the rest of them conducted themselves brilliantly. It was a great performance and it's a shame it had to end this way."

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

A spokesman for the theatre said a statement would be released on Monday.

The audience could have been forgiven for thinking they were in the wrong musical when a chandelier came crashing towards the dress circle in an echo of the famous scene in the Phantom of the Opera.

Theatregoers were only saved from serious injury by the safety cable on the light fitting which prevented it from landing on the packed house at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket on Saturday night.

In the pandemonium that followed, Luke Perry, the Hollywood star playing the lead role in the musical When Harry Met Sally, leapt from the stage to help the audience, who were showered with plaster and concrete.

Eleven people were taken to hospital suffering minor in juries and yesterday all but one were allowed home.

Arnold M Cook, the theatre's chairman, said performances would not resume until Wednesday. He apologised to the audience members affected and promised all 900 present a full refund and an invitation to see the show again.

Ben Chamberlain, a spokesman for the theatre which was built in 1720, said the chandelier pulled free from the ceiling five minutes before the end of the show. "Luke was a bit of a hero."

Health and safety officials will visit the theatre today. But seasoned stage hands believe they know the cause of the accident. "Everyone's speculated whether this is the work of the Phantom of the Opera but that show is on across the road from us at Her Majesty's," said one.
